The mother-of-two said: "I love everything miniature - even the shop is small. And I enjoy making things: I made my own doll's house 10 years ago and things went on from there."
The shop is packed with enough objects to furnish an entire dream house: dining sets, lounge suites complete with grandfather clock, frilly curtains, bedding, kitchen cupboards, utensils and model food. In short, there is everything a style-conscious doll could want.


When her interest began, Suzanne spent 10 weeks making her Georgian-style house at a rate of one morning a week. But doll's house construction has been made much easier these days, Suzanne sells many houses flat-packed and far more reasonable than the cost of making hers. "I would not make one from scratch again," she said.


Her customers vary a lot in age. Suzanne said: "Children enjoy doll's houses from age three to early teens.
"Doli's houses are also a major hobby for women of retirement age, second only to gardening according to some surveys. It appeals to all ages - buying a house for a child can start a craze in an adult."
When it comes to style, children usually choose modern while adults prefer Victorian or Georgian, "But there's a gap in the market for art-deco," said Suzanne.


Men take an interest too, though many prefer to build their house from scratch. Suzanne's most unusual request came from a man who was building a gothic-style house that might have suited the Addams family.
"He wanted a coffin," she said. "And l did not even have to make it myself: I was able to source one already lined."


For the real enthusiast, doll's houses are serious business. "It's not about dolls, it's about houses, decorating and accessories," said Suzanne. "Some people make entire streets. To an extent, people are living out the fantasy of the house they've always wanted and over which they can have complete control."
And it's not about playing either, Suzanne said: "I hear some people say they don't want their grandchildren going near the doll's house, because it's not a toy'"


Many of the accessories are handmade, either by local artists or by Suzanne herself. The smallest thing in the shop is a matchbox just a few millimetres across -without the matches in.Suzanne has no regrets abou tturning her hobby into her work.If you'd told me 15 years ago I'd be running my own business I wouldn't have believed you, she. said

Before opening Cosy Corners she and her husband Richard ran a pet shop in Canterbury for nearly eight years,

Owner Suzanne turned her passion for all things Lilliput-sized into a business when she opened the Mortimer Street shop nearly a year ago.
She is delighted with its success and is looking forward to its first Christmas season

It is a real pleasure to come across such excellent customer service these days.
I bought a dolls house online from Cosy Corners and discovered it had a broken
part. I was delighted with the way the problem was dealt with so promptly and
courteously. A replacement part was ordered and I was kept informed of what was
happening and offered alternatives. All this at a very busy time of year in the
run up to Christmas. I will be recommending Cosy Corners to my friends and will
certainly be back myself. I just know that if I had had the same problem with a
big company I would have spent hours on the phone and probably ended up sending
